Oil importers seek over 470,000 Ton oil products for Jan-Feb

16 December 2013, 13:11

Nairobi -  Local oil importers are seeking over 470,000 tonnes of oil products for delivery over January to February, slightly lower than its previous purchases for November to January, industry sources said on Monday.

They are seeking 111,672 tonnes of jet fuel, 196,772 tonnes of 500 ppm sulphur gasoil and 129,648 tonnes of gasoline for delivery over January to February.

The cargoes are for delivery into Kipevu Oil Terminal, the sources said.

The importers are also seeking a combination cargo of 27,543 tonnes of 500 ppm sulphur gasoil and 6,155 tonnes of gasoline for delivery into Mbaraki and Shimanzi Oil Terminal in January.

The tender closes on December 17 and is valid until December 18.

Kenya last bought more than 450,000 tonnes of oil products for delivery over November to early January from Gapco Kenya, Oryx Energies and Vivo Energy.

The country's oil importers later separately bought an additional 93,000 tonnes of gasoil, gasoline and jet fuel for December to January delivery.

Kenya's diesel and gasoline imports are set to rise by a third over the next two years, driven by a growing auto fleet and rising industrial activity amid a lack of refining capacity.
