Kenyan inflation slows in January

Nairobi - Kenya's year-on-year
inflation rate slowed in January for the second
month in a row to 18.31 percent from 18.93 percent in December,
although the consumer price index rose 0.56 percent in the
Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) data showed all
components in the consumer price basket rose from December
except transport that was down 1.47 percent and communication,
down 0.02 percent.
Food and non-alcoholic drinks prices, which carry a 36.04
percent weight in the basket, rose 0.58 percent from a month
The consensus forecast in a Reuters poll was for the
inflation rate to slow to 18.0 percent.
