Balala moves to streamline miners

Taita Taveta - Despite the fallout when Mining Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala revoked mining licenses, he has been hailed by gemstone dealers in Taita Taveta County for forming a taskforce to streamline the industry.
The acting chairman of the Kenya African Miners Association (Kama) Joseph Mbiriri welcomed the reforms in the mining industry, although he noted that the increase in mining fees would discourage small-scale miners from effectively engaging in the multi-billion shillings mining enterprise, The Standard reports.
Mbiriri said that the Government should not rush to introduce new mining fees without consulting with stakeholders in the mining industry.
