How my son transported Ese to Kano - Yunusa's father speaks out

03 March 2016, 11:42

Abuja - The father of Yunusa Yellow, abductor of the now-famous Ese Oruru, has spoken out on his son's crimes, revealing details of how the girl was transported from her home in Bayelsa State to Kano.

According to Dahiru Bala, he was informed by his son sometime last year of his plans to bring a girl back home with him from Bayelsa State, Premium Times has reported.

Bala, who lives in Tofa village in the Kura LGA of Kano, disclosed that he had advised his son against bringing "Aisha" (Ese's Muslim name) home with him, despite Yunusa's claims that the girl had converted to Islam and had wanted to marry him.

According to Yunusa's dad, his son had been a servant for the Oruru family and had fallen for Ese shortly before they both decided to leave Bayelsa and live together in Kano.

Despite his reservations on the matter, Bala revealed that his son lived in fear of Ese allegedly committing suicide if she was not allowed to travel with him.

Bala stated that he had reported Ese's impending arrival to the village head who then referred the matter to Emir Sanusi's palace.

Due to the Emir being in Saudi Arabia, Ese was taken in by the Shari'ah office, which claimed that she cried every day for Yunusa.

After consulting with the Emir upon his return, Ese's family revealed that she was only 14 and was not able to fully comprehend the severity of her decisions.

Despite this, the girl allegedly cried that her life was in danger if she was returned to her family. Police intervened shortly after and requested that Ese be taken back to Kura, where she was enrolled in both Western and Islamic schools.

According to Bala, Ese accepted Islam in the house of the district head in Kano.

Ese has since been reunited with her family following the intervention of the Police Inspector General, Solomon Arase, who ordered that she be released and taken to Abuja to meet with her mother.
