Ese speaks out: 'I am not fine'

02 March 2016, 15:32

Abuja - Ese Oruru, a 14-year-old girl who was allegedly abducted and forcefully married in August of last year, has finally been reunited with her mother in Abuja.

The reunion comes eight months after the girl's abduction at the hands of a customer at her mother's stall, Punch has reported.

Despite jubilation at seeing her parents after her ordeal, Ese has revealed that she is "not fine" but refused to disclose the details of her condition to reporters.

Governors in both Kano and Delta States have recently called for the immediate prosecution of Ese's abductor, identified as Yunusaa, commonly referred to as Yellow, who forced the girl into marriage and made her convert to Islam.

The abduction has caused condemnation across the country, even spurring a campaign known as #FreeEse.

The Muslim Rights Concern, as well as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, have also joined the conversation, calling for Yellow's immediate arrest and prosecution.

Ese's father, Charles Oruru, has since lambasted Emir of Kano, Mallam Muhammadu Sanusi II, saying that he should have been quicker in his actions and that he only became part of the girl's rescue due to pressure from the Nigerian public.

The girl's siblings have since expressed excitement at hearing the news of her rescue, disclosing that they will be very happy to see their sister again.
