Ugandan man jailed for fathering twins with teenage daughter

14 April 2016, 16:56

Kampala - A 47-year-old Ugandan man has been sentenced to 25 years imprisonment after he was found guilty of fathering twins with his 15-year-old daughter.

A report by The Insider indicated that the suspect, Mahammed Jukko, began sleeping with his daughter after she told him that she had been raped by a man named Richard.

Juuko allegedly told his daughter that she could engage in sexual intercourse with him since she had already been defiled by another man.

Juuko was reported to have raped his daughter nightly, threatening to kill her if she reported the matter to anyone.

Cases of rape in the east African country were on the rise, with New Vision indicating startling rates of child rape within the country.

According to Dr Johnson Byabasaija, approximately 30% of inmates incarcerated for capital offences in Uganda had been placed in prison on charges of defilement.

David Mugawe, Executive of AfriChild Centre, described the cost of inaction in the face of child abuse as "incalculable", stating that "over 90% of children in Uganda were considered vulnerable in one way or another".
