Johannesburg – Three men have been arrested for the killing of a man in Johannesburg on Sunday morning in what is believed to be mob justice.
The group allegedly attacked a 23-year old man in the early hours of Sunday morning at the corner of Eloff Street and Salisbury Street in the CBD and pelted him with stones.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Xoli Mbele said the victim was declared dead on the scene by attending paramedics.
“Security guards tried to rescue a victim from the crowd but they were also assaulted,” Mbele said in a statement.
The cause of the attack is still unknown with police members on the hunt for an unknown number of other suspects connected to the incident.
“Some of the suspects are still at large and a police investigation is under way. The suspects will appear soon in the Johannesburg Magistrate Court.”
Further information about the incident is not yet available.
