Take a leaf from Magufuli, President told

17 December 2015, 15:59

Lusaka – Zambian opposition leader and All People’s Congress party president, Nason Msoni, has taken a swipe at President Edgar Lungu, saying the Southern African nation's leader is the complete opposite to newly elected Tanzanian President John Magufuli.

According to The Post, Msoni said that in less than a month Magufuli had already been able to cut government expenditure in a pragmatic manner such as reducing the size of cabinet and making the discreet use of national resources a priority.

But Lungu, he said, was not serious  in his use of national resources, saying he still embarked on trips to commission projects that can be handed over to someone .

Msoni also accused Lungu of not caring about the sufferings of his people despite being aware of their short comings.

“I don’t know what Zambians would want to do, but is this a guy you can give another five years? Certainly not, because he is not moved by human suffering. The man doesn’t know what he is doing, he is just a man in politics. It’s just power galore for the sake of it and he does not even believe in what he says.”

“The extent of negligence, irresponsible borrowing and plunder of national resources is totally disgusting ,” Msoni said.

Msoni’s remarks came a few days after another opposition official lashed out at Lungu’s government for neglecting the poor.

Opposition Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) Member of Parliament Elijah Muchina accused the ruling party of not being pro-poor.

“How can you be pro-poor when for five years, people have been suffering, struggling to buy soap?,” Muchina was quoted as saying.

Reports indicate that presidentLungu’s administration has failed to deliver on promises made during the election campaign early this year.

Lungu came into office early this year following a snap election in January after the death in office of president Michael Sata in October 2014.
