Stop using church for politics, President told

07 January 2016, 16:12

Lusaka – A Zambian opposition Member of Parliament has urged President Lungu to desist from using the church for his political campaigns, reports the Post.

Likando Mufalali for the United Party for National Development (UPND) said Lungu was an opportunist who should stop using the church as a springboard for his campaigns.

"He should not be hypocritical in his approach to religious things. He should not pretend that he is humble, he is submitting to the church leaders. He must do the right things. He should be himself. The approach of using churches as his springboard for his campaigns, I think he should leave the church alone,” Mufalali was quoted as saying.

Mufalai said the very same religious leaders Lungu was using, were the same bishops who were met with violence by the ruling Patriotic Front government, which showed no remorse.

Meanwhile, Zambian economist, Cosmos Musumali also gave the Southern nation president a stern warning, saying his haphazard decision making was scaring away possible investors and making Zambians feel uneasy.

This came after Lungu decided to re-implement state-owned power company, Zesco’s and the Energy Board's previous tariffs because citizens complained that the tariffs were too high in light of the coming elections in August.
