Dar es Salaam - Tanzanian President John Magufuli has ordered all public institutions to immediately halt the serving of refreshments at meetings and instead channel funds into "more important needs", The Star has reported.
In the latest addition to a swathe of cost cutting measures, Magufuli has sent out a directive to the University of Dar es Salaam decrying "unnecessary heavy refreshments" being served at public meetings.
Magufuli has ordered that all meetings lasting less than two hours be served with only tea, coffee or water and occasionally, nuts. In "very rare and exceptional circumstances", special clearance will have to be sought in order for lunch to be catered.
After a copy of the official notice was leaked onto social media, many took to Twitter to poke fun at the President, even spawning the hashtags #WhatWouldMagufuliDo, #MagufuliEffect and #Magufulication.
