Cape Town - Standard Bank economist Chris Hart resigned on Monday, EWN reports, after a Twitter row earlier this year.
According to IOL, Standard Bank's spokesperson Ross Lindstrom confirmed the resignation.
Standard Bank announced the suspension of Hart pending an inquiry on January 4 following a "racist" tweet.
Hart came under fire after he tweeted: "More than 25 years after apartheid ended, the victims are increasing along with a sense of entitlement and hatred towards minorities."
Standard Bank immediately distanced itself from his tweet, tweeting that the bank did not endorse the comments made in the tweet.
Hart later apologised, saying that his tweet was taken out of context. "[It was] meant to be read in context of slow growth,” he tweeted.
"For transformation and exclusion to be resolved, SA needs a massive expansion. The economy is currently way too small," he added.
