Pastor appears in court over placard denouncing Mugabe

17 December 2015, 14:19 Cindy Pierce

Harare - A Zimbabwean pastor from Kariba has appeared in court over a placard denouncing President Robert Mugabe, New Zimbabwe has reported.

The accused, Patrick Mugadza (45), appeared before a Victoria Falls court on charges of criminal nuisance after he carried a placard written "Mr President the people are suffering, Proverbs 21:13".

Mugadza, a pastor at the Remnant Church, allegedly travelled from Kariba to Victoria Falls to stage a demonstration against Zanu-PF during the party's just ended annual conference.

Mugadza was accused of disturbing peace and was subsequently arrested for his actions.

Thulani Nkala, the lawyer of the accused, argued that his client was within his constitutional right when he decided to stage the demonstration.

Mugadza has since been released on $500 bail, along with having to report to the nearest police station in Kariba and being confined to his place of residence.

Mugadza is set to appear back in court on January 5, 2016.

The charge came hot on the heels of Zanu-PF MP, Justice Wadyajena, who was being charged for making "insulting remarks" against First Lady Grace Mugabe, according to All Africa.

Over 100 arrests have allegedly been made in the past decade for demonstrations and remarks denouncing the Zimbabwean president.
