No one is challenging Mugabe enough

23 December 2015, 15:05

Harare - Zimbabwe's ruling Zanu-PF party supporters are not challenging President Robert Mugabe enough to make him realise that the ongoing purges that are destroying the revolutionary party are wrong, a Zanu-PF stalwart and former governor Cephas Msipa, 84, has reportedly said.

Speaking in an interview with New Zimbabwe, the former ruling party politburo member said Zimbabweans failed to condemn Mugabe, 91, in instances where he went wrong.

Msipa said no one dared challenge the nonegenarian.

"... Mugabe is doing what he is doing because no one is telling him enough to say no, no, no what you are doing is wrong. He goes everywhere and people would ululate and so he thinks he is right. I mean any leader would do that until people say no, no, what you are doing is wrong."

Msipa launched his biography titled "In Pursuit of Freedom and Justice, a memoir, in which he documents his experiences – including a portion of his public life.

A NewsDay report early this year reported that Msipa blasted the ruling party saying that its priorities were wrong as Mugabe continued his purge of his detractors, including former vice president Joice Mujuru.

Msipa also said at the time that Zanu-PF was economically clueless and had no capacity to remedy the free-falling economy “because of its divisive tendencies”.

He said the ruling party’s priorities were wrong.
