Museveni accused of 'recycling' manifestos

05 January 2016, 19:22

Kampala - Uganda's long time ruler Yoweri Museveni has been slammed over recycling election manifestos as he leads the ruling NRM party into this year's presidential polls, Daily Monitor reports.

According to the report president Museveni has failed to fulfill about 817 promises in key areas of infrastructure such as roads, hospitals, schools, airports, bridges, electricity and machinery since he became the east African nation’s president about three decades ago.

It is estimated that the unfulfilled promises could cost the oil rich land locked east African country about 3 trillion Ugandan Shilling, the report claimed.

Political scientist and researcher Fredrick Kisekka-Ntale said un-fulfilment of promises in most developing countries was caused by failure to align presidential promises to policies and lack of following national development plans after elections.

In another report, Daily Monitor, quoted opposition presidential candidate Kizza Besigye as saying Ugandans should ask Museveni to account for the unfulfilled promises he has made in the last 30 years.

Uganda is set to hold its presidential elections in Feburary.
