Zimbabwe – President Robert Mugabe's daughter, Bona Chikore, is about to give birth in the Far East to his first grandchild, Zimbabwe's president has revealed.
The state-controlled Sunday News reported that the president had told mourners gathered at the home of the late Victoria Chitepo that First Lady Grace Mugabe had travelled to be with Bona.
"President Mugabe said First Lady Amai Grace Mugabe was a close friend of the late heroine but was unable to attend as she was in the Far East with her daughter, Mrs Bona Chikore, who is about to give birth," the newspaper reported.
"It's a matter of days," the official Sunday Mail quoted the president as saying.
The newspaper did not say where in the Far East Bona and Grace were staying, although Mugabe himself has sought medical care in Singapore on several occasions.
Mugabe and his wife have visited Singapore twice recently. They travelled to Japan in the last week of March but stopped off in Singapore for five days en route.
Mugabe also stopped off in Singapore en route to India earlier in March and then stayed on in Singapore after his trip to India was cancelled.
Bona was seen heavily pregnant during celebrations to mark her father's 92nd birthday in March. She married pilot, Simba Chikore, in 2014.
Victoria Chitepo was the wife of prominent freedom fighter, Herbert Chitepo, who was assassinated in 1975. She died on Friday.
Mugabe said Grace would be "heartbroken" at the news.
