Blantyre - Malawian actor Michael Usi, has reportedly called on President Peter Mutharika to fire his cabinet, saying his administration has failed the people of Malawi.
According to Nyasa Times, the outspoken actor, who is popularly known as Manganya, said he had no political ambitions, but urged Malawians to reject any policies that would disadvantage them.
"Malawi has no future, Malawians do not even know if they have a leader in control. We don’t know if the president is charge... If the president does not fire the cabinet, Malawi will continue to sink in untold misery and poverty," Usi was quoted as saying.
Usi slammed the government’s failure to implement the Access to the Information bill, saying government officials were against it as it could expose them if they were involved in corruption.
This was not the first time the actor spoke about the country's information bill. Early this month, Usi described the government's slow pace in passing the bill as a "corruption breeding ground", according Nyasa Times in a different report.
"This is childish. I repeat the government is childish because people are suffering, what is in that bill that the government is hiding," Usi was quoted as saying at the time.
However, according to the Minister of Information, Jappie Mhango, the bill had to be refereed back for redrafting as it had too many mistakes inside it.
"It was the intention of government that we have a good balanced law that is representative of all sectors of society," said Mhanga.
