Lagos - A trans-national thief has claimed that committing crime in other West African countries is easier than in his home country Nigeria, adding that other neighbouring countries are less "security conscious", according to a report on Wednesday.
The suspect, Wasimi Dannies, 32, was arrested by Rapid Response Squad, RRS, in Agbole area of Orile, Lagos, over the weekend, Vanguard reported.
A laptop and three machetes which were concealed inside the walls of his hideout allegedly had been stolen in Ghana, the report said.
The Delta state born suspect confessed that he was released from prison a year ago, and was an expert break-in robber in Ghana and along the West Africa Coast.
“…I broke into people’s houses and made away with their properties and personal effects like mobile phones, laptops, jewellery and other personal effects. I used to bring the stolen items to Nigeria to sell,” Dannies was quoted saying.
Lagos state police confirmed the arrest.
