10 May 2016, 15:28

Lilongwe - A 13-year-old boy has been left in a critical condition after he was scalded by his drunk father in Malawi's Nkhotakota district.

According to Malawi24, the suspect, Byson Lekeleni, was alleged to have returned home from a drinking spree, following which an argument broke out between him and his wife.

Shortly after demanded that his wife and son vacate the premises, Lekeleni allegedly grabbed the boy and threw him into boiling hot water.

The victim, Ackim Lekeleni, sustained burn injuries to his stomach and back and was currently fighting for his life at a nearby hospital, the report said.

The suspect was arrested and was due to appear in court soon on a charge of grievous bodily harm.

The development came just a few months after a father from the Chiradzulu district was accused of killing his daughter over stolen sugarcane.

According to Nyasa Times, Mackson Makoka was alleged to have beaten his daughter to such an extent that she succumbed from her injuries just two days later.

A post mortem examination revealed that she died as a result of a fracture to her skull.
