Burundi crisis: Four former leaders join talks

29 December 2015, 19:10

Kampala - Four former Burundian presidents have reportedly joined the talks led by Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to try and bring the bloody unrest in the east African country to an end, according to Daily Monitor.

The talks kicked off in Kampala on Monday, with the four former leaders; Pierre Buyoya, Sylvester Ntibantunganya, Domitien Ndayizeye and Jean Baptist Bagaza in attendance.

The unrest was sparked by President Pierre Nkurunziza’s insistence to run for a third term early this year.

He was re-elected as the country’s president in an election that many opposition parties in the country refused to accept claiming they were rigged.
