WATCH: New footage from Lagos tragedy

29 September 2014, 13:29

Cape Town – Nigeria's televangelist TB Joshua has released a new video clip showing the collapse, two weeks ago, of a four-storey building at the Synagogue Church of All Nations (Scoan) in Lagos, Nigeria.

The release of the CCTV "full" footage of the building collapse comes as investigations into the cause of the incident continue.

Watch the video below.

The footage shows the occurrence of the incident from different angles, with one of them showing the moment when the building collapsed, crashing on people walking on the street.

It also shows the scene of the demolished building floors piled on top of each other.

A guesthouse at Scoan collapsed on 12 September as more floors were being constructed on top of the existing three-storey building, leaving at least 84 South Africans dead and dozens trapped in the debris.

This is the highest number of South Africans to die on foreign soil in a single incident during peacetime.

It is believed that there were 349 South Africans visiting the church in the Ikotun neighbourhood of Nigeria's megacity Lagos at the time of the collapse, according to reports.

In the same footage, Scoan expresses its "deepest condolences to the government of Nigeria, the government of South Africa and to the governments of other affected nations".

Scoan re-iterated that it was committed to co-operating with authorities in establishing the cause of the collapse of the building.
