Teen held for lecturer's murder

19 October 2014, 17:19

Johannesburg - An 18-year-old has been arrested for the murder of a University of Free State lecturer, SA police said on Sunday.

The youth was arrested on Saturday night, said police spokesperson Sinah Mpakane.

"The lifeless body of Lehlohonolo Mathengtheng was found by his friends in his flat in Willows, Bloemfontein on Sunday, 28 September, who then alerted the police," said Mpakane.

The lecturer's throat had been slit.

Mpakane said the youth arrested for Mathengtheng's murder was believed to have been friends with him.

"He was a Grade 10 learner at one of the high schools in the area," she said.

The youth was scheduled to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court on Monday to face a charge of murder.
