Lagos - Nigeria's president has declared a state of emergency across three north-eastern territories, because of ever-increasing guerrilla attacks by Islamic extremists.
President Goodluck Jonathan said Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states will receive more army troops, though he said state politicians will remain in their posts.
He said that troops would receive orders to demolish any building they suspected of housing Islamic extremists.
Jonathan said Nigeria was at "war" with extremists.
