Cape Town - A South African mercenary is among the victims of a twin bombing in Mogadishu, EWN reported on Monday afternoon, quoting Al Jazeera.
It was Shabaab's first major attack since promising revenge for the killing of its leader last week.
A spokesperson for the rebel group told Al Jazeera that a South African mercenary and three Americans were among those killed in the blasts.
The blasts within an hour of each other on the same road southwest of Mogadishu targeted a convoy of African Union (AU) troops and a Somali government convoy of police and national security forces. Civilian buses near the first blast were hit.
Reuters reported at the weekend that Somalia had put its troops on alert for retaliation after Shabaab's leader, Ahmed Godane, was killed in a US air strike.
