Libyan leader warns of probe obstacles

23 September 2013, 11:00

Tripoli - Libya's prime minister says that conditions on the ground are not favourable for a successful probe into attacks that killed the US ambassador and three other Americans last year.

In response to a question from The Associated Press, Ali Zidan said his country continues to cooperate with the United States despite the obstacles facing investigators in the eastern city of Benghazi.

Zidan did not elaborate further during a press conference on Sunday in Tripoli, but confirmed that US Republican Congressman Darrel Issa was expected to arrive soon for further investigations.

Libya's nascent security forces continue to rely on militias for security following the 2011 civil war that ousted Muammar Gaddafi.

Benghazi, the birthplace of the uprising against Gaddafi, has been among the most volatile cities with security forces under constant attack.
