Husband given 15 years for attempted murder

24 June 2015, 12:49

Mbale – A man working as a Sironko District Personnel has been slammed with a 15 year jail sentence for attempting to kill his wife in the Bududa District, reports the Daily Monitor.

On the fateful day it is reported that John Wanja asked his wife, Harriet Nekesa to accompany him to go buy land for their two children. However, when they reached the site Nekesa was face to face with a machete that Wanja had been carrying in his bag.

He then proceeded to hack his wife where he aimed for her head off but the victim used her arms to defend herself.

As a result, one of her hands was chopped off while the other was barely hanging on.

Her screams were heard by passers-by who managed to scare Wanja off.

Wanja has been on remand since March and pleaded guilty to his charge.

Judge Henry Isabirye Kawesa claims that despite the perpetrator feeling remorse he still mislead his wife and had every intent on killing her therefore was given 15 years in prison.
