Cape Town – Zimbabwean youths have decried the rate of unemployment
in the country and called on government to take the issue seriously, as many
students graduating from colleges and universities continued to languish in the
streets with no jobs.
According to News Day, Zimbabwe Youth Council director
Livingstone Dzikira said it was unfortunate the government was accepting the unemployment
“abnormality” as “normal”.
Dzikira said government and other stakeholders should
channel their resources in fighting unemployment in the same manner they have
done in fighting the HIV pandemic, the report said.
Zimbabwe’s unemployment is estimated at close to 90, according
to recent statistics.
A report by The Independent revealed a gloomy picture of
Zimbabwe’s economy saying economic indicators pointed at a troubled
situation in months ahead with more and more companies slipping into
liquidation and throwing thousands out of the job market.
This comes as the United Nations said Africa’s unemployment
figures were "frightening".
