Cops arrested for soliciting bribe

10 July 2014, 08:06

Johannesburg - Two police constables were arrested for allegedly soliciting a bribe from a motorist in Pretoria on Wednesday, Gauteng police said.

The police officers stationed at Sunnyside police station impounded a man's vehicle because it did not have a valid licence disc, Hawks spokesperson Paul Ramaloko said.

The officers, aged 32 and 21, demanded KES 8000 to release the vehicle.

The officers parked the vehicle at the corner of Kotze and Leyds streets while they were waiting for the man to pay them.

The man reported the matter to the Hawks and the two were arrested a few minutes after receiving the bribe.

They are expected to appear in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crime Court on Thursday.
