Congo president 'spent €1.18m on suits and shirts'

18 December 2013, 09:04

Cape Town – President of the Republic of Congo Denis Sassou Nguesso reportedly spent €1.18m on suits and shirts as part of €60m he and his family pumped into items and property in France.

A Telegraph report said as part of probe into African leaders, French investigators revealed that Sassou-Nguesso spent €1.18m between 2005 and 2011 on shirts and suites at a boutique in Paris.

The report said police also came up across around 20 luxury properties belonging to the Sassou-Nguesso family in the most chic of Paris districts.

In all, police believed the Sassou-Nguesso family spent around €60m on properties and luxury items.

A lawyer acting for Congo-Brazzaville, has however, threatened France with legal action in efforts to thwart the investigations.
