City notice: Mandela owes KES 60K+

05 August 2013, 11:02

Johannesburg - As Nelson Mandela lies in a Pretoria hospital bed, a notice has been stuck to the elder former president’s Houghton home from the City of Joburg.

The pre-termination notice, dated 1 August, states that Mandela’s account is in arrears and that he owes the City about KES 60 468, Eyewitness News reported.

City Power could not confirm whether his account is actually in arrears. It has also not ruled out the possibility that the notice was stuck to the wrong door or is a case of irregular billing.

The Nelson Mandela Foundation says the city should verify its facts and denied that Madiba owed any outstanding amounts relating to services.

Mandela was hospitalised in 8 June.

According to the presidency, the global icon remains in a critical but stable condition and continues to show signs of improvement.
