Cairo - Egypt's official news agency says a prominent judge
and two journalists will stand trial for defaming judges.
MENA says Judge Hisham Genina, who is head of a key
oversight body, was charged with libel along with Chief Editor Magdi el-Galad
of the privately owned Al-Masry Al-Youm daily and reporter Moammed el-Sanhouri.
The case stems from a 2012 interview with Genina in which he
accuses the head of the Judges' Club of corruption and describes internal club
lections as a "farce".
Several public figures have been recently prosecuted for
allegedly insulting judges, including Egypt's ousted president Mohammed Morsi
and top leaders of his Muslim Brotherhood group.
